Flat and High Gloss finish.

Flat and High Gloss finishes are not particularly popular as they are the extreme ends of the spectrum. Flat tends to look cheap as it doesn’t reflect most of the light hitting it, which might make it seem like a lower quality even if it’s not. Flat finishes are best to use on the ceilings and other areas where the paint job is not noticeable. High Gloss finishes can be used mainly on a few trimmings, doors, and fences. High gloss is also perfect for any woodwork or molding on the walls in order to protect it from showing any significant breakdown over time.

Matte finish

A matte finish is known for its lack of sheen and the smooth powdery look to the finished product. This aspect of no shine makes it enduring and long-lasting, even when confronted with scuffs and dirt. The matte finish, however, is troublesome to clean, and it is not suitable for high traffic areas like hallways or cabinets.

This type of paint is also the easiest to apply as shinier enamels are usually much harder to work with, but a matte paint will glide on smoothly. No matter how messy the person is in the painting process, it will end up looking perfect.

Eggshell finish

This type of finish has a beautiful flat look that’s perfect for walls, but it’s not recommended for anything else. It can resist dirt and grime better than a matte finish, which makes it suitable for an active household and can be considered for high traffic areas.

Satin finish

Satin enamel is an extremely versatile finish that can be suitable for all surfaces. It also has durable protection from filth and muck. The finish has a minimal shine that is ideal for kitchen cabinets and bathrooms.

Semi-Gloss finish

The finish has a more lustrous look than the others but a little less than a high gloss finish. Typically it can be used for shutters, doors, cabinets, and trims in the house. This shiny finish also makes it extremely resilient and can withstand stains, moisture, and a bit more wear that makes it great for exterior as well. It does pick up more hand greases and smudges, but it is also quite easy to clean. This finish is perfect in the kid’s rooms or baby’s nursery as any messes on the walls can easily be cleaned up.
