Resin Bound Driveway

Most homeowners prefer installing resin-bound driveways because of their strength, design flexibility, low maintenance, and ease of upkeep. However, these pavements are meant to be used by regular vehicular traffic and ordinary pedestrians because they can’t withstand weighty loads.

To prevent them from damage, they need to be adequately maintained and protected. Apart from allowing heavy vehicles to pack on them, here are some ways you should maintain them:

  1. Regular Cleaning

You can prevent your resin-bound driveway from wearing out by routinely sweeping it using a stiff broom. Sweeping removes detritus and leaves and inhibits the growth of moss. Additionally, hosing it can help to eliminate other stains, foreign bodies, and potentially damaging elements.

As a rule of thumb, you should jet-wash your pavement with a pressure washer or a sweeper having vacuuming and water-jetting equipment.

Here are the steps to follow when jet-washing your resin-bound surface:

  • Spray it with a flat nozzle to enhance its precision.
  • Use a jet-washer with a pressure of 150 bar. Higher pressure than this may damage the surface of your driveway. Use cool water because water that’s either too hot or too cold may damage the resin surface.
  • Your hose’s nozzle should be about 20 meters from the pavement’s surface. Taking it nearer to the surface may damage it.
  • Spray in a back and forth motion.
  1. Remove Algae And Moss

Before installing a resin-bound driveway, you should uproot any weed. You can use algae and moss killers to inhibit their regrowth. However, it would help if you were careful to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Furthermore, you can also eliminate ingrained algae by applying a strong bleach solution to the resin surface. But this should also be used according to the local environment and manufacturer’s guidelines. After applying the bleaching solution, ensure you rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water.

  1. Uproot Weeds From The Driveway

A resin pavement’s construction is created to be weed-resistant. However, no matter how you maintain it, some wind-blown weed seeds may fall on it and sprout. Fortunately, you can uproot the weeds using your hand before they damage the surface.

If you choose to use your hands to uproot the weeds, ensure that you extract them from the root because some weeds may sprout again if they’re just broken off. If the weeds have gone deep into the surface, you may need to kill them with an appropriate weed killer or herbicide. These killers will help you to eliminate the weeds without damaging your pavement.

  1. Keep Your Driveway Free Of Oil Spills

Grease and oil can make your driveway have an unsightly appearance. That’s why you should be careful to keep it from greasy, oil, and chemical spillages. In case any of these elements spill on the surface, flush them immediately with water.

Though rainfall can wash away oil spillages, it’s not automatic. It’s advisable to use a mild detergent and warm water to clean the oil. Allow the water and detergent to penetrate the surface and live it for 10 minutes before spraying it with a jet wash.

Bottom Line

Resin-bound driveways can give a beautiful appearance to your home. However, you need to maintain them properly to keep them in good condition. If you follow these maintenance tips, you’ll keep your driveway surface always clean.
